On the afternoon of Friday, January 8, 2016, a caller for a rescheduled appointment appeared before a notary at The Village Grind coffee shop. The signing was for a Jurat/Affiant Statement. Residents will call in to have identification ‘authorized’ or ‘certified as an original or true copy’ by a notary public. Unfortunately, Notaries Public in the State of South Carolina do not have the ability to do this. The only thing we, as notaries CAN do is to verify the identity of the signer before us when we act in our notarial capacity. Notarizing for a signature and the notary verifying that a document is an original or photocopy/true copy is against South Carolina Notary Public statute and not valid in this state. If you have any questions in regard to the legalities of such, please refer to the State of South Carolina Secretary of State or ask an attorney.
Today’s signing took approximately 10 minutes to complete via a National Notary Association Jurat/Affiant Statement form and the signer was on their way. Assignment completed by NNA Certified Notary Public Signing Agent Sonita M. Leak at The Village Grind, 1263 Pendleton Street, Greenville, SC 29611.
