Notary for Affidavit of Residence | Coffee Underground

“Usually Affidavits of Residence are signed closer to the beginning of the school year.”

The beginning of the school year is usually when the flood of them come in, however, an Affidavit of Residence can show up at our doorstep at any time.

This is what occurred on this morning of Monday, March 7, 2016. A local resident of the Berea are of South Carolina called into our notary lines at approximately 8:15am needing a form signed from a relative.  No further details on this particular transaction will be provided, however, we can provide a little more information from a previous post regarding Affidavits of Residence.

This Affidavit can sometimes be confusing, as it may have the request for the host to sign, the supported family’s head of household sign or the document might request BOTH parties signatures.

Also, this document poses a large risk for residency fraud.  Notaries public notarizing these documents should be highly aware of who is signing these types of documents to ensure that they have sound mind, are not being forced to sign by the urging of another party (duress), and ensuring that the proper person’s signature is on the bottom line.

This assignment was completed by Certified Notary Public Signing Agent Sonita M. Leak at Coffee Underground, 1 E. Coffee Street, Greenville, SC 29601.
