It’s almost 5pm on Wednesday, April 8th and our office receives a call regarding a wedding ceremony already having occurred, however, the marriage license/certificate was attained in South Carolina and still remained unsigned.
In the State of South Carolina, when a couple marries, it is required for the minister or notary that marries the couple to perform a ceremony. The ceremony does not have to be a large drawn-out ceremony, which is the case for MOST elopements, but MUST be performed. The marriage can be ruled invalid if a ceremony is not conducted. IT IS LAW!
Private Ceremony held at Spill the Beans, 531 S. Main Street, Greenville, SC 29601 performed by Sonita M. Leak and quickly rushed back to the Marriage License Division of the Greenville County Probate Court for filing and copies for the couple.
