Notary Blog: “Oh No! Another Uh-Oh!”

A signing that was set for a rehabilitation facility located on Highway 14 in Simpsonville, South Carolina did not occur.  It seems like we’ve had more and more occurrences where we are set to see patients within facilities, however, the transaction of signing paperwork does not occur because of one of many reasons.

If you are a notary, or any outside professional at that matter, and you must visit a patient within a rehabilitation, assisted-living, skilled-nursing, hospital – any type of facility dealing in Senior or medical care, TALK TO AN ADMINISTRATOR FIRST.

Do not go blindly into a situation sight unseen.  Often, relatives call on behalf of patients, many with good intent.  However, there are some instances in my experience as a Notary Public where the people involved in issuing paperwork were in all actuality holding a person against their will to sign.  They were coercing the patient to sign paperwork, and that in my book is a major ‘No – No’!

So, without saying, a signing which was to occur, did not.

This appearance was made by State of South Carolina Notary Public Signing Agent, Sonita M. Leak on the afternoon of Thursday, January 12, 2017.
