Notary for Portuguese Language Document – Can’t Notarize Directly, But This is What We CAN Do…

BrazilianFlagOn October 9, 2014, a local resident presented us with a document from the Brazilian Consulate which was printed in the Portuguese language.  Although, at the time, we could not notarize said document, what the resident could do is present the document before a Certified Translator, and either 1) Have the Certified Translator’s signature notarized (in the presence of a Notary Public) or notarize the actual translated document, given it has the notarial wording included.  The issue the local resident had was the fact that the Consulate office in Brazil would only allow the document, as it was written in Portuguese to be notarized (which would be against the law in South Carolina).  Instead of presenting you with how the notarization could be accomplished without the resident having to fly back to Brazil, how do you think this was resolved?
